La Santa Cecilia
La Santa Cecilia
La Santa Cecilia consists of accordionist and requintero Jose “Pepe” Carlos, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramirez, and lead vocalist La Marisoul, whose captivating voice sings about love, loss and heartbreak. Their influences range from Miles Davis to The Beatles, Zeppelin to Janis Joplin and Mercedes Sosa to Ramon Ayala. Their common love of music and openness to all genres led them to the concept of La Santa Cecilia in 2007 – named after the patron saint of musicians.

La Santa Cecilia’s self-titled EP was recorded at Lo-Fi Studios in San Bernardino and the legendary Westlake Recording Studios in Hollywood. Their song “Chicle” was featured on the Emmy award-winning series Weeds, the independent feature Dish, and the documentary Re-Encounters about Oaxacan artist Alejandro Santiago. Their musician also be heard on KPFK’s radio programs ‘4 O’clock Tuesday’ with Gustavo Arellano and ’ Travel Tips For Aztlan’ with Mark Torres. The band made an on-camera appearance on HBO’s Emmy award-winning hit show Entourage; the episode also featured the songs “Chicle” and “El Farol.” The band also held a two-week residence for the L.A. Philharmonic- sponsored children’s show Summer Sounds, where they performed their songs and acted so as to educate the community of Los Angeles on their very own cultural treasures.

The band was signed in 2010 to indie label Rebeleon Music Group headed by multi-GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winning producer Sebastian Krys. The band toured all over the United States and Mexico. They garnered the attention of Universal Music Latino in 2012 and subsequently signed with the label. In 2013 the band released their major label debut Trenta Dias (30 Days), which features the dance floor shaking “Monedita,” the humanistic approach to immigration track “El Hielo (ICE),” and a captivating collaboration with fan Elvis Costello on “Losing Game.” The band has already hit the road to promote the new collection. The band was tapped by multiple Latin GRAMMY award winning duo Jesse & Joy to open for them on their North American Tour. The band has also taped an on-air appearance on the critically acclaimed TV show “The Bridge” (FX Network). More to come from this band from Los Angeles. The band has enjoyed great critical acclaim in the Wall Street Journal, NPR (Named to numerous Best of 2013 lists), and Ad Age Magazine naming the band a must for any Ad Agencies looking to launch a Hispanic Campaign. The band also celebrate 2014 with a GRAMMY nomination (Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album) for Treinta Dias.
